About the photographer
Hi, I'm Andrew.
I’m not really a photographer. I’m a guy from Kamloops who carries a camera everywhere (fine, usually three) and lives in Ucluelet, on Vancouver Island, with my partner Jill.
I started shooting for real in 2020, after my dad passed and I realized I had almost no photos of him just being himself: mowing the lawn, elbow-deep in a car. So now I photograph the ordinary stuff on purpose. Mostly on 35mm and 120 film, sometimes digital when my wallet asks nicely. There are over 50,000 frames in my Lightroom, and I like about eleven of them.
Surfing came later. Five years ago, if you’d told me I’d live in Ukee and call surfing my favourite sport, I’d have laughed and said “Go Canucks.” Then a pandemic surf trip to Tofino ruined me, in the good way. Jill keeps dragging me out of my comfort zone (backpacking, skiing, cooking with fresh herbs) and I keep bringing a camera along.
Favourite colour: red, hence the grease pencil. Lucky number: 20. Mother’s maiden name: nice try.
